He was such a gun junior. Fuck I had such high wraps on him then. Was so sad when we didn't get him.

 

It's just too tall. Walker will play FF with Johnston up the ground - that's where his best work is done. He actually plays very similar to Lynch in the whole 'high uncontested mark count between 55-85 metres from goal' part of his game. He's just not *as* good at finding space and a better pack grab.

Obviously Johnston needs to back it up but I don't think there's space for Jenkins. Johnston can back up ruck if needed or else I'd prefer to play McKernan down back taking the resting ruck and then playing 2nd ruck from there. Petrenko down forward is pretty necessary for pressure reasons with Wright on a flank and Porplyzia/Callinan crumbing forward.

We really need some goalsneak kind of player down there - Betts is on 600K at Carlton and he's only worth 350-420K tops but I'd happily throw him 450-480K which is more than he should get offered from Carlton. Need someone like him in free agency/trade week.

 

Davis in a forward pocket too <_< - can play forward.

We've been completely shafted by player movements. Losing Tippett for free, Gunston for fuck all (ended up as Kerridge, I think. Urgh) Bock + a 2nd for Tambling (urgh - although I think Tambling deserved a longer run this season), Knights for nothing and Maric for Lynch (I'd take that. Maric of '12 is a gun, Maric of '13 is a very good player but not the same and with his chronic injury I wouldn't expect him to ever be at '12 level. Lynch is also a very good player and suits our needs much more)

Shafted. Imagine if we had Tippett and Gunston still. Johnston, McKernan, Jenkins and even Lynch would be in reserves. Epic.

He's got the closing speed to be a bit of a Lachlan Keefe/Jordan Roughead type defender. I'd like to see it.

He's not really a crumber though. He's small and black so I get how it seems like that but he's certainly more of a 3rd tall/linkup who's agile enough at ground level nowadays.

 

Johnston competed well against Renouf in the ruck a few weeks ago. Broke even iirc. That's all you want from a 2nd ruck.

4 tall forwards is just too much. Lynch would have to play up the ground heaps almost as a wing to justify it. Jenkins isn't good enough to command us playing 3 KFs. Nor is Johnston. 3 Walkers, I guess.

All of them need space too. They'd just clog each other's space and any 1 on 1 would end up a 2 on 1 as any competent defensive unit would just zone us.

 

He's just so inefficient. I think there's a lot to work with but his acceleration is so slow despite being agile with a good top speed & his body strength leaves a lot to be desired.

If he could kick for goal well I could reconcile it, but he can't.

 

I think ruck/fwds are nearly the most important players in the league. Blokes like Bellchambers/Ryder/Daniher/Vardy/Hale/Roughead/Petrie/Daw/Clark/Dixon/Vickery/Tippett are gonna be such premium players in the future.

I think if you don't have a bloke like that you're gonna have to play two rucks - but I still think most teams won't.
