A Look Forward To The Next Round...

We are counting down the minutes until the Giants RFC meet the Vikings RFC in a massive encounter. Earlier in the season the match was abandoned after 60 minutes, with Seasonal Rugby Head, Ed Ames, citing crowd trouble as the reason for the stoppage.

"It was getting dangerous in the stands and so we had to stop the game. Unfortunately, due to the tight schedule, we couldn't reschedule, regardless of the staff trying for an hour after this to try and get the game going again. It was a big problem but I'm sure we handled it in the right manner."

The Giants training ground and bar has been brimming with anticipation for the encounter these last few days too. Speaking at a news conference just yesterday, President Chris Golding expected the game to be a classic.

"There's something about this fixture that makes me anticipate a classic. The boys have been talking about it all week; Gazza is especially up for it and wants to show some of the lads who went to the Kings instead of the Giants that they've made the wrong decision."

"We've made three changes which will be announced on the morning of the match, but I'm expecting Weaver and Glensor to have big games; Glensor has been incredibly impressive and obviously Gaz wants to put one over them. Hopefully NK can perform at 10 and show what a class player he is."

Captain Brett Gemmell was seen with his MaxiMuscle in hand, and spared us a moment to say, "I'm the best, let's face it. I'm underpaid but I still am awesome, and I'm gonna dominate those petty 'Kings this weekend."

The Vikings will want DRP Taylor at his best; the matchup of Farnsworth -vs- Taylor will be a highlight of the weekend, and the Giants will hope that Farnsworth can recapture last season's form and outdo the other Big Winger. ScrumHalf Perry will no doubt be at his creative best and he is likely to be up against Luke Pilgrim, who's been in top form this season, although there are rumours that GB Pinup boy, Ben Hornby, may start his first game of the season.

The other fixture of the weekend is the Cheetahs vs. the Spartans. Whilst being the less anticipated of the weekend's games, it should be a really great match. With the Spartans coming off the back of the two defeats to the Giants and the Vikings, they'll be looking for some major redemption against the Cheetahs. However, they're also open to another blow from the Cheetahs.

It could be the Cheetahs first ever win over the Spartans, and they have the in form Ged King at FlyHalf and Tim Clough at Inside Centre. Clough was involved in the GB trial and has a point to prove still, whilst there are GB Reps SLO Graham and JEM Logan in the backline as well. Graham will be wanting to put in a big performance to outshine BOY Blunder, his GB counterpart, from Fullback, whilst Logan will want to get the better of the Spartans Wingers.

Spartans President Marcuss Deane suggested that some hard work had been done in their camp this last week and a bit, and that they were looking to improve upon last week's performance against the Giants.

"We came up short last week against a good Giants side. I think we could've, and maybe should've, beaten them, but it was a hell of a lot better than the game against the Vikings. That really humbled us and showed the whole competition what they're capable of, but I still think we can make the Grand Final and win the competition."

The Spartans Lineout will have to be at its' very best against the partnership of McDougal and Verigotta, who some say are the best pairing in the whole competition. Whatever the result is, it will be a fascinating match-up.

I'd guess so but you never know, I wouldn't have picked the Vikings drubbing them 50 odd points to 16 or whatever it was.
