2025 NRL Season

Yeah the two finals Penrith have played were against pretty soft opposition. And although they were ruthless in attack yesterday, the press and pundits calling them 'perfect' and favourites for the comp is a bit much. Leaking 26 points against that Dogs side is mediocre af, no matter how well they won the mid-field.

Yeah the fact that they were that fragile against that pretty puss dogs backline and really only Preston running some very basic lines spells trouble against the better opposition coming up.

What he provides elsewhere easily nullifies his lack of aerial threat. He's the most dangerous winger I've seen. Inglis and Folau might be in similar areas, but weren't specialists. Tiquiri could've been too, but gave his best years to Yawnion. As for defending bombs, To'o uses his density very well to not allow his opponent to dominate space.

Yep, Dylan should have been binned for sure.

They have the firepower to do it, Panthers are building though, and are deserved favourites. Broncos' week off will help them, and they have some guys returning from injury but it's going to be challenging. Broncos will have to complete at around 85-90% to win IMO.

Nick Kenny is probably Panthers' most important player at this stage of the season. Cleary is obviously the linchpin of the team, but Kenny has such dynamic service out of half, and he leads their defence. They looked much, much better than v the Wahs.

Broncos' key guys are obviously Walsh and Haas. However, Staggs will be huge in this game. He'd be licking his lips looking at the space around Blaise and Mclean. And if Ezra is back as is being reported, he has had joy in the past running at Cleary.

Broncos fragility will be on thier edges, as it has been all sesson. They'll likely have 2 new combinations there. I know Alamoti picked up a hat-trick, but I actually wouldn't be surprised if we see Jenkins come back into the side vs Broncos.

Day game against the Broncos is the exact type of game Penrith would struggle against, but considering the lack of consistent playing time of Mam, Reynolds and Hunt at hooker, I'm going to say no. Walsh with less ball time will probably go back to thinking he has to do something with it every time and increase his chances of fucking it up.

Definitely but I couldnt put him ahead of Inglis or Folau for that fact. Aerial ability is a pretty important component for a well-rounded winger and against high quality jumpers like Coates and Hammer his stature has been exposed.

If you were picking a club player to play consistent footy week in week out it's To'o. But if its an Origin, a GF or a game for all yer monies, prime GI and Folau, not even a question. Probably Brett Morris too, dude had so many big moments for NSW and Australia.

Shame to hear Mark N say he's probably going back to union in 2027. For the love of god I hope Daley doesn't make the same mistake as was made with Sua'alii. He shouldnt be considered for Origin any more imo. Nor for the Test team.

Massively disagree. I feel like Marky Mark is a very polished product who is probably the best choice for a wing spot if the team was picked tomorrow, I'd have no qualms with them picking him if he'd give them the best chance to win a series.

Sua'alii didn't feel like the best choice on any front, he was a cat and it felt like more of a 'blooding' move that made absolutely zero sense with him pissing off to union.

Yeh no problem with picking Marky Mark if he's the best option available, especially as he'll be back after the world cup. I'm less so convinced about Suaalii.

Pretty sure Max Jorgensen will sign for the Roosters after the world cup too who is another centre/winger that will go good IMO.

The comment about if the team was picked tomorrow is kinda fatuous - it isn't. We know when it's picked, about 6 months before he fucks off back to union. Let the roosters do their stupid revolving door policy under the union-loving Robinson. It was a circus last time as it will be next year when his form drops even a little bit. We dont need to be giving defects publicity when he has no prior record in Origin.

I love watching him play but blooding him makes no more sense than blooding Sua'alii. It's desperate and unnecessary, and he's far from polished defensively, even roosters fans would admit that.

I wont go into too much detail in this NRL thread cause it belongs in Origin but I'm absolutely convinced NSW will struggle to win consistently without a fit Turbo or Mitchell at 1. Those two plus Tedesco and Edwards well and truly cover the two positions under consideration. Dont need to be picking a 35 odd game rookie whose loyalty to RL is highly questionable imo.

Seen a few people questioning Robbo signing Nawaqanitawase but I guarantee if all other 16 NRL clubs saw what Robbo did in him and knew they could get him for 2yrs at 500k a season there wouldn't have been a club who hesitated.

He's been an awesome value buy as far as I'm concerned.

    I find the criticism strange.

He should be playing against PNG but it does seem way too early to be picking him for Aus.. although I can't think who the wingers will be off the top of my head. Half of them rule themselves out anyways. If he's really just going back to play the World Cup and then come back then he will probably be the catalyst for that Perth/Rugby deal they were talking about, interchanging league and union players. Would definitely be a huge boost for Australia in Union, not sure it's going to help rugby league.

The only Perth/Union thing I've heard about was Perth tapping into the South African Union market because they're "only a 13hr flight distance apart" which is insane to me. I think Perth will struggle to convince NSW based players to jump on a 5hr flight.

Heard that Nathan Cleary hasn't lost a day game since 2019.

Dylan Edwards is only 29, such a demanding position when you throw in origin series and post-season internationals.

Reckon the full pre-season this year did Teddy the world of good, I know he's spoken about it quite openly.

If memory serves Edwards has carried some pretty serious injuries through the last 18months as well.

Yeah he's by no means looked a 'young' 29 this year which is why I left him off. I think signing Laurie up for another year or two wouldn't have been the worst idea.

Yeh heard Canberra are going to pick him up which surprised me... Thought if he was going it would be to guarantee a clearer path to first grade.
