2021 State of Origin

It's not the best possible side but in fairness a lot of key absences hurt. I can't think of a good utility to cover 9 with Radley suspended, I don't think picking a second hooker would've been the right option.

I was thinking they may have gone Burton at centre to cover the halves, Yeo as cover for centre, then Koroisau run on, Cook bench, or vice versa.

Or the other option would've just been to have Peachey in 14 covering everything.

I think it's a mistake picking Jake Trbojevic too, especially at run on when you've got Yeo at lock. I thought Jakes ball playing was more of a hinderance than a help last year and it stifles the go forward. Yeo's craft around the ruck is more than enough, you want Cook playing off the back of forwards bending the line, and Cleary, Luai and Tedesco getting their hands on the footy as much as possible.

Yeah, I don't really like Jurbo being there either. Have Haas and Safiti starting, with Paulo and RCG on the bench.

Also would've tried to find room for Pangai with no Crichton or Frizzell.

Yeh I would’ve picked at least one of Schuster or Koloamatangi over playing Murray on an edge but given both are essentially rookies at NRL level still I can understand the argument against.

I like the balance Jake adds to the side from a defensive point of view, origin is a game based so much in the fundamentals and there’s nothing more fundamental to a game of league than the yardage battle. Think sometimes we overvalue a player who can go forward and forget about picking players who can stop the opposition from going forward. Good tackle technique and line speed are so crucial and Jake does both of these as well as anyone, it’s why players like Nate Myles and Dallas Johnson excelled when they went up to Origin level IMO.

I agree though unless he’s taking a play 1 or 2 hit up Jake shouldn’t be involved in the attacking play, his ball playing is overrated.

Game 1 confirmed in Townsville, not sure why they didn’t just play it out at Bankwest if you want to show off a new stadium.

A much better venue and given Qld hosted the last series where one of the sides had 2 home games it surely should’ve been NSW’s choice.

Game 1 & 2 in Queensland is a big advantage.

At least it's June this year and not November.

I hate it, the NRL season just goes to shit for the next month and a bit whilst we play out this series.

We must be the only game that compromises the integrity of its season year after year in such a drastic way.

    It's so stupid.

I must admit I am looking forward to seeing what Penrith run out. I'm not even sure what they'll do in the second row but:

    1. Edwards/Crichton
    2. Staines
    3. Momirovski
    4. Crichton/Naden
    5. Naden/Jennings
    6. Tyrone May
    7. Matt Burton
    8. Leota
    9. Mitch Kenny
    10. Leniu
    11.
    12.
    13. Fisher Harris

Still looks pretty strong. They'd be filthy at losing Korisau and Martin as well.

  12. Magic AJ Parker

Korisau is an interesting one, in years gone by the18th man has been allowed to leave camp to play at club level on the weekend and then would return back to camp however given 18th man is a genuine playing position on game day now I wonder if that changes.

I wouldn't be surprised if Penrith name him. tomorrow. Would be a farce if Korisau wasn't allowed to play because he's 18th/19th man.

    This.
    It's so dumb

  14. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

They should just name an 18th man from a team with the bye. It's not rocket surgery.

I'd rather it was post season too, I am talking about playing in Townsville.

'Souths and NSW teammate Damien Cook said of Mitchell: “Wayne [Bennett] said it the other day, ‘it’s like having Greg play for NSW’, which he was meant to do. Latrell is that big body, he’s skilful and a game-breaker'

Is that a sneaky dig from cook about inglis being a nswelshman?

  17. Cribbage RG Cribb

    Haha yep

  18. Cribbage RG Cribb

    Kikau still exists.

Guessing Hopgood or Sorensen for the other one unless Falls plays half instead of May.

  19. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

Think my brain is trying to pretend he doesn't. Has been very average for my draft super coach teams.

  20. Magic AJ Parker

Have teams been finalised... I always expect a last minute change with Freddy.
