I only watched the replays but both were clearly sin binings on the new rulings, and the hit on the ground might have got him there a third time if i'm honest. How you can think given the last week that putting your shoulder in to someone's head was going to be okay is beyond me.

The Broncos/Roosters game was some of the worst officiating, they really did keep us in it. Missed about 5 forward passes, yet picked up the minor one from Roosters. Although the fact Lodge was binned, when what he did was the same as what Manu did twice shows the inconsistency of this whole shit show.

I think most rational people assumed they would look at last week and re-asses their definition of ‘forceful’, recalibrate what would warrant a sin-bin.

Last week doesn’t have to be the standard by which we must now measure all future incidents moving forward, this seems to be a notion that is being accepted by commentators of the game, that we now have the new norm set which is extremely concerning.

I didn’t see a tackle tonight that I thought needed to be sin binned, it’s the ones where players are having to be sent for HIA’s that we need to rub out, the actual ‘forceful’ one’s. The face stroke from Fleggler was it? And the cuddle from Radley after a good shot are just embarrassing for the game not to mention the way players are carrying on every second set now, you see less whinging and acting in a soccer game these days, genuinely...

Radley's second is a bees penis from what Papalii did. Thats half the problem.

You can't judge a penalty on a player on the 'victim' going for a HIA or not. Half of the coconuts in the comp could take a bowling ball to the head and be fine. Does anyone see Olam ever failing a HIA?

I would consider myself rational and I knew that there was no way they were going to go backwards on this. They have painted it is a player welfare issue they haven't given them self any space to go backwards.

Also that fist tackle on Kelly was ridiculous. Radley jumps in to it and makes first contact on Kelly's chin, all of which occurs after the ball had been kicked.

The problem is consistency. More people not less should have been in the bin last night including radley for a third or fourth time.

I agree, you can’t measure it on whether or not the tackled player goes off for a HIA or not but you can redefine ‘forceful’ contact as contact that would be severe enough to cause a concussion. Equally plenty of players would start going off for HIA’s if they knew it would result in a sin bin for the opposing player. The current interpretation of forceful contact is way too soft.

I'm surprised more players aren't wearing head gear and that coaches/clubs aren't attempting to make it near compulsory with all this HIA stuff.

It may only make a difference at the margins, but can be huge if its the difference between a Tedesco passing or failing a HIA.

Consussions and CTE are a risk in any contact sport. Just like a broken neck is
Do we change the way the game played to prevent a risk the players know is there?

Of course they are going to backwards at some point on this. PVL probably has more staying power than previous administrators but revenue always wins over player welfare, don’t be fooled.

Plus the changes they're making are actually likely to cause more concussions than there was before if players start tackling lower, with the added bonus of pissing everyone off.

In before they start sin binning attackers for forceful raising of the knee. Lol

  13. stupersteve03 SJ Cambridge

The two are linked now. If they move backwards after acknowledging the danger then they very much start to be liable and a few less people watching is gonna be far less damaging to them then a class action suit. I think we will have to accept this farcical version of a weird mid season crack down and hope the teams and players eventually get on board.

This will and should happen. If you are running with your knees up and make contact with someone's head you'll get binned and given raising your knee into a tackler is already against the rules...

This is certainly the biggest problem with the crackdown as it stands because with the measures to artificially raise the pace of the game combined with teams regularly playing a man short fatigue will be a big problem which will mean bad tackling techniques which may mean more of these incidental concussions. However this is all a liability exercise not an actual player welfare issue so I don't think the NrL care

    Penrith are incredible.

You still think Souths are making the Grand Final?

That’s 50 points put on them by Melbourne & Penrith now.

Bulldogs are $21 next week

Biggest odds I’ve ever seen head to head in the NRL. Probably unders too tbh.

But that could come down to interpretation of whether the action was deliberate. Should not send anyone off for accidental contact imo.
