I don't care that it's still months away, I'd like to talk about proper fucking rugby.

Planning a trip to the South Island in September to coincide with the All Blacks test in Dunedin. Should be able to see a Tasman, North Otago and Southland game as well as take in the new Forsyth Barr Stadium.

I was having a rummage through King Country's site earlier - still no jerseys on sale - and they're looking for decent rugby players to head over and play club rugby in the region to be in with a sniff of KC representative honours. Anyone here good enough - might be worth a dash.

Good question. I've got the fixture list somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

KC take on Taranaki on the 27th July. Can't find which ground it'll be played at. Presumably Owen Delany rather than Te Kuiti? Though the Naki boys might prefer Te Kuiti.

I'll have a few mates playing in it this year. Looking forward to it.

Taranaki to win the whole thing and retain the shield.

It would be nice to get the rugby boots on again at some point.

Reckon they'll have a decent shot at the title if they can keep their players from too much All Black involvement, Taylor/Eaton/Barrett in particular.

Well I hope we do well. The Crowley and especially Kennedy years were pretty tough. Lots of quality sides around but it would be nice to be a big shot this season. Bringing through youth like the Barrett brothers and raiding Manawatu was a good plan. For a while there for every Smith, McAlister and Fugistaller who left the region after high school we replaced them with someone not as good or a dinky import selection like that really fat French prop we had yonks back.

Nice to see us retaining some players and bringing in decent imports for once.

In your neck of the woods Palmy atm Flem. Went to the rugby museum today. Never been in a place that seemed more a celebration of new zealand than that.

Also went to Massey university - nice campus.

At the rugby museum I had trouble figuring out when the first test match was. We played NSW around 1895 in a test. But played our first international against australia in 1903.

Our first tour interestingly enough was played in navy blue jerseys.

Never actually been to the Rugby Museum in PN, despite staying in the area for a weekend at least once a year. Sounds likes its well worth a visit then. :)

Is the rugby museum still next to the Arena Manawatu???

I went about 4 or so years ago. It's just I was at the (whatever the museum was called for geography stuff) a few weeks ago and it had a sign up about the rugby museum and I thought maybe it had re-located to there.

Its right next to down town PN. I am not sure if the arena is close by or not.

There was another museum of sorts in the same building. The rugby museum is on the 2nd floor.

I'd say it's moved to the museum I was in then. It was in a smallish/ oldish building when I went....by the stadium.

Real rugby is now close enough to sniff.

King Country have warmed up for the new season by thumping Wanganui 36 - 5 in Taihape.

I was hoping to go and see King Country take on Taranaki for the Ranfurly Shield, but it's bizarrely been scheduled for 2.05pm on Friday in Inglewood.

King Country have a new coach for the season ahead - former King Country, Northland and Ireland cap - Kurt McQuilkin.

Hoping for a good season from the Rams and Lions.

I know two people who support the Lions. Quite frankly Wellington doesn't deserve an NPC team. My cricket captain follows them and a shrew of a woman who turns up at the TOTE to scream in a horse voice "C'mon you Lions". and "Shut you wankers I can't hear the commentary".

In Hamilton everyone followed Waikato in the 80s. We got 40 000 out for big games. Half of the crowd from the surrounding rural areas who had come into the capital city to support the team. Was awesome.

I think I now prefer Super rugby to NPC. I cringe a little bit at the knock ons and forward passes. And I find it disturbing that the Canterbury NPC team is exactly the same as their Super XV team.

Still I can vouch that I will be watching it closely. Are we having a pool then?

I think anyone who has a super 15 team shouldn't be hosting ITM cup games.

    Always held this view

Tbf though. The ITM Cup wouldn't get nearly as much support as it does (which tbh is still not that great) if Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, Cantafag and Otago didn't have teams. It'd just be rather pointless tbh.

ITM Cup schedule is pretty decent this year in terms of viewing, the players might not agree though. We have rugby on just about every night of the week.
