Soz m8. Would've been sick if it went though, benchies win the game with the Gayler and Downes out.

Yeah there's still a youth bias, but five Under 23s is something I think most states would be doing most of the time anyway.

Actually they've changed that number to six players over 23, which probably explains for you. :p Good move really, hadn't even realised they'd increased it.

You're allowed 6 players who aren't Under 23 in your Futures League side.

It was different for this round because CA wanted the Test squad players who weren't playing ODIs to get a game before South Africa so they didn't count towards the Over 23s quota.

You'd think though in terms of
      - He's in his mid 20s
      - He's averaging in the 40s with the bat this season and bowls first change
      - He's captain of his club side
      - His father is some "grade cricket royal" coach/administrator

.. there's a chance he could've come up at selection meetings. He'd be too old to count as an Under 23s player for the Futures League quota now though.

I'm pretty surprised he's actually succeeding in first grade, so based on my experience I'd say no, but it's been a few years since I played against him. Was too good for us when he did but the fact that I was playing says it all about the standard he was at back then. :p

No way! He's one of the worst batsmen I've ever seen play professional cricket.

I know Peter Worthington opened a few times for WA but I don't think he'd really count as a "fast bowler" as such. Darren Wates?

Haha I reckon if it happened two seasons later I would've remembered. Really got in the Shield around the 2006/07 season; I followed the results before then but didn't obsessively stalk scorecards yet.

Because it's you asking me I'm going to say Johnson. Especially since Midnight always used to make posts about how Johnson opened the batting in Townsville grade cricket.

i reckon shooting guard. dunno what abilities to give it though. i loved playing basketball but i was a defender who just cheated in the nobody grade.
