Yeh I think he's a good pickup, we saw the best of him under Bennett.

Jesse Bromwich added to the roster

    And now Nichols.

Bromich, Nichols and Kaufusi are a pretty great foundation for a forward pack to build on.

    Old, average and overrated.

  5. Tartmaster AJ James

Apparently KBrom looking at going too

    Redcliffe Storm coming along nicely

  6. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Storm are getting rid of the right people.

Didn't realise Nicholls was already 32 (and rubbish). Hopefully they nab someone decent soon

Is that mostly red jersey thats been getting around settled on as their first strip?

I get the feeling given they've missed out on a lot of stars they're going after old workhorses who can impart knowledge + culture to their kids. Short-term pain for long-term gain.

Problem is that the NRL structure is not the same as AFL or America so it's a riskier prospect.

Nichols isn't rubbish. Come on now.

It's exactly what I imagined Bennett would do if he had any serious input into the recruitment which it looks like he does. Signing players he knows he can get performance out of from day 1 with no real concern about the longevity of the squad after he leaves.

Problem is not so much Bennett but whoever takes over from him just won't be at the same level as hm and we've seen it time and time again when he leaves a club the side takes a dip in output and goes onto a "rebuilding phase".

I remember when Souths signed him almost immediately they restructured their leadership team to remove recruitment from the head coaches core role.

On the plus side they have signed Peter O'Sullivan who has hands down the best record in the game at getting the best young talent around. Problem is the gap between the 16yo's O'Sullivan is signing and the 30yro's Bennett is signing.

I wonder if we'll see Sean and Matt show up?

Interestingly I saw Lodge at Chermside Shops in Brisbane a few months back. Cunt was aggro at his missus for some reason. Scary motherfucker.

Bennett does have a rep for getting relatively hastily-assembled teams to gel quite quickly. As long as they get at least a somewhat marquee half/hooker, a gamebreaker somewhere in the backline and reliable backs they will likely have a good opening season.

Really thought they'd have had a few more signings by now.

Very light on for spine and three-quarters

I think they will get one or both of Oates/Herbie from Brisbane, which is silly from Brisbane as you'd rather give them the right edge.

    Would you sign…

    Kalyn Ponga for 1.2m per season or;

Munster 900k + Reece Walsh 400k per season.

  17. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

If I was getting them to start next year, I'd take Munster and Walsh. If I had to wait til 2024 when Munster and Walsh's contracts end and Ponga was ready to go for rd 1 2023? It would make things much more difficult.

Do you sign Munster and Walsh for 2024, tank for a season with Rookies and hope you retain fans/other players for the 2024 season? And that's another year of age on their veteran pack too.

You'd have to think they have plans to shell out some cash on some people.

Sean O'Sullivan's stock has risen a bit after some solid performances with Penrith in Cleary's absence. Peter being there helps his case too. So I'd pencil him in for one half spot, opening up the other spine positions for one or 2 more established names. Who readily available is another question. Most high profile players say they are staying where they are, but obviously those media statements should be ignored.

DCE (33) – End of 2023. Whether there are options etc. involved I'm not sure. Is aging but is still one of the best halves in the game.

Ponga (24 today in fact) - End of 2022. Player Option for 2023 and 2024. Is probably their biggest target I think. Ticks a lot of boxes. Young, Queenslander, marketable, and could move into the halves later on in his career.

Grant (24) - End of 2022. He has a mutual option for 2023, but that means nothing really. Now that Smith is unavailable, I’d say he’s their next biggest target after Ponga.

Munster (27) - End of 2023. Still kind of young and a household name. Also Bennett loves him so I wouldn't be surprised if they try and get him for 2024 if they have the cash available. Sitting on $1Million for a season for a new side is risky though.

Drinkwater (24) - End of 2023. Is on the outer at the Cows for some bizarre reason. Would be one of the 1st guys I'd chase for a new team and he’d come at a much cheaper price than the others on this list.

    S. Walker (19) - End of 2023. Would need to pay lots get him away from the Roosters, and then a lot of that money would be going towards potential. Taking him out of the Roosters’ setup would probably negatively impact his development too.

    C. Walker (32) - End of 2023. probably the riskiest of the bunch to drop cash on seeing his age and playstyle.

Walsh (19) - End of 2023. Player Option for 2024. Would certainly be on their radar.

Sexton (21) - End of 2024. Probably too far away to be a prospect. But you never know with the Titans.

Missing out on Smith really puts them in a pickle, as he appeared to be a shoe-in for them, a lot of these guys are coming off contract a year too late as well. Makes things very hard. Just by looking at who's available and contracts etc. my guess would be they sign Ponga and Grant.

Yeah, I think they'll get Oates. Broncos will do their best to hold on to Herbie though I think. The fans will riot if he leaves, more so than even when Fifita left as Herbie actually puts in noticeable effort.

I get the feeling they'll try and target Milford + Taylor, though that seems an extremely risky halves combination TSTL.

No idea who's a decent hooker and off-contract. Verrills might be their best bet but apparently he doesn't want to leave Sydney?

    I guess there's also Liddle....but he's shit.
