Parramatta Eels

  1. Magic AJ Parker

Matterson is probably the perfect example though, he was a highly rated junior and had a great attitude however it was pretty clear he just lacked the skills to make it as a half or 5/8 so Parra just never re-signed him, another club took the time to educate and develop him as he found his way into grade, he then got a break in his new preferred position at another club and then Parra ended up signing him for top dollar in new position.

They seem to do this with a lot of their Under 20’s players where they just don’t re-sign them or leave them out there on the last year of their contract to be poached unless they’re ready for First Grade at the age of 18 or 19. Almost like they see no value in continuing to develop them pas that age.

Yep came here to say just this after Magic's post which I largely agree with.

100% developed as a player elsewhere (Mounties and Penrith). Eels were just the ones smart enough to take the punt on him a 25/26 year old Fijian winger. He's a pretty fucking crazy player history wise.

    I'm pretty sure he's gone

    2015 - Group 9 @ 22
    2016 - Sydney Shield @ 23
2017 - Ron Massey Cup and then NSW Cup by season's end @ 24
    2018 - NSW Cup @ 25
    2019 - NRL @ 26

I get that warm fuzzy feeling inside when Mitch Moses invariably shits the bed and everyone who's been fawning over him start to question whether he is the man for the job.

He is, always has been, and always will be, fucking shit.

Today I saw a dude with a Paramatta eels jersey in the Countdown supermarket.
    Conversation went thus
    Me "Who's your favourite eel?"
    Him "Huh?"
Me "Who's your favourite Paramatta player?"
    Him "Can't go past Gutherson"
    Me "What about Dylan Brown?"
Then he looked nervous and withdrew a bit and said "He's good".
Then he turned his body away to end the conversation.

I analysed it afterwards and think he thought I was challenging his choice of Gutherson. I wasn't. I was just wanting to get his views on Brown as I have trouble getting a read on his ceiling.
Passing this story on so y'all can avoid a similar mishap with eels fans in your local community.

(this post meant to be light hearted but based on true story this morning)

Or he didn't want to speak to some random cunt while he was shopping.

So you are saying you wouldn't discuss league with strangers while shopping?

For extra context in case it helps - he was late thirties and balding.

  7. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

I have a lot in common with this bloke.

Haha when Hurricane first made that last post I thought about posting "So Gemmell, why were you wearing a Parra jersey at Countdown Shops?"

  9. Hurricane JD Hurricane

Personally wasn't impressed with his choice of Gutherson. It's too obvious a choice. Probably not a serious fan. Maybe he doesn't know much about Dylan Brown and wanted out of the conversation so that his lack of knowledge wouldn't be exposed?

    Possible theories
    a) Felt I was challenging him by suggesting Dylan Brown after he said King Gutho
    b) "he didn't want to speak to some random cunt while he was shopping."
    c) He was sketchy as to who Dylan Brown was and exited the conversation to avoid being exposed.

    All of the above IMO.

I'd lean towards c). Why wear the jersey if you don't want any attention?

Not gonna lie I'd find it odd. But I'd still be on for a chat because when you love your team you'll take any excuse to talk about them.

100 percent this Steve. Don't you think!!!

If someone rocked up to me wearing my Warriors shirt and asked me about a couple of players I would be in my element.
Like Toolman said. If you are wearing your team colours out in public then you want some interaction? No??

I have analysed it more today some of it could be my appearance.
    I looked intimidating maybe.
Was wearing Warriors sweatshirt. And in New Zealand Warriors merchandise sells like hot cakes. Tough kids wear it as a statement, so maybe I was too staunch looking for him (do you aussies know the word "staunch" or is that a kiwism?)
Plus I am quite fat right now and clocking in around 100kg. I am average height around 5 ten.
So I might have frightened him. I could pass for a shorter second rower type of guy. So maybe he was physically intimidated?

The final thought had while on train today. Is that maybe he was like "I am a high flying Eels fan. We finished fourth in the ladder. I don't to need to chat to lowly warriors fans".
And conversely had he been a dogs or even sea eagles fan he might have been champing at the bit for a yarn while packing his groceries at countdown that day?
Certainly his reaction was worthy of comment at least.

Because you don't want to talk about footy or because it's a Parramatta jersey?
