    How do any of those stats translate to someone that plays on the wing? He's an outside player but Fremantle doesn't run the ball around the boundary or in open spaces very much is what I'm saying. You don't average 12.3 goals per game by running the ball on the outside. Lead the league in stoppages and were 15th in running bounces. Sounds like a team that gets out wide and runs win the ball.

    It's not about someone who "plays on the wing" its about saying he is an outside player. He is exactly that, someone goes in, gets the ball and dishes it out to him who will run an carry - therefore, an outside player. You don't have to play on the wing to be an outside player.

    So because they lead the league in stoppages, they have zero outside running players?

    I never said he's not an outside player, I know he doesn't go in and get the ball, but I'm just saying that Fremantle like to play straight up and down, through the corridor and rarely go wide. If a team goes wide, players like Hill and Jetta can use that to there advantage and run opponents off their feet.

    Just because they attack through corridor doesn't mean they don't use their quick outside players to open up the corridor by breaking the lines...

    Some awful takes in here. Awful

    stephen hill is an elite outside receiver. He's just such a good player that he possesses a solid clearance game too.

    Cyril Rioli is also an elite wide receiver and line breaker, but he's so good in congestion he plays closer to the contest. If played as a wing he'd dominate. bennell the same, he's a gun wingman but plays closer to the contest as he's a gun.

    Lewis Jetta is just outside as fuck. But Hill is too, he's just good enough to also have an inside game.

    Also not sure if THB understands the functional role of a wing at afl level.

    they don't man a wing territorially, they 'wing' the contest. Wherever the ball is they're around it, flanking the contest looking for a receive. If Fremantle play direct through the middle, Hill just sits outside the contests across the middle of the ground. He's still playing a wing role, because where the wing is is very relative to where the ball is.

    Martin will probably stay at the Tigers (especially if they have a little success in september, provided they make it). But Kangas and Bombers are also keen on signing him.

    Kelly is an absolute jet, surely GWS do everything they can to try and convince him to stay!

    Menzel interested in a move to SA but word is he is putting pen to paper on a new 3-year deal to stay in Geelong.
