This weekend went as expected. Keen for both the final and the 3rd/4th playoff, should be good matches.

Would love to see SA open up and use the width like they did in SA against the All Blacks the last few years. They aren't really playing for anything and it would make for one hell of a game. Would pick them to go well doing it too and look like clowns for not playing that way in the semi.

Do you even know rugby? Taking the points on offer isn't negative. Especially in a play off match. You're silly not to early in a game or when it's close or to keep in touch or draw it beyond 7 points. It'd be like declining pussy because it's on offer rather than working for it. Basically the only time you don't take the 3 is if the kicker doesn't think he'll get it, you're well behind, well ahead or you have the opposition on the back foot - either because they're a man down or could well end up being a man down or lastly because you need a 4 try BP.

I think Julian is just trolling because he's a league fan not a rugby fan.

The play off game for 3/4 is a complete waste of time, no one gives a fuck least of all the players.

lol. Of course it's negative. And that's a typically retarded analogy from you too ftr.

Several times this tournament has seen serious teams decline the points to go for 7. Australia are the main culprit and that's one of the few reasons they are the only team that can possibly beat NZ. I don't think they well though.

Playing for tries from rolling mauls is not positive play. Going for the try from penalties has nothing to do with us being in the final.

Going for a try isn't positive? ok.

I think there's a difference between having a positive mindset and playing a positive type of rugby. Going for a try over a penalty is definitely a positive mindset but if your game revolves around playing 10 man rugby to score that try then that's playing a negative type of rugby IMO.

Obvious example being "that" call in the England vs Wales game

We're not saying it's not positive. What we are saying is going for the points on offer isn't negative in a number of situations.

Look at England, I bet they wish they went for the 3 now.

Smelly got it bang on. There's nothing positive about kicking the corner and trying to maul a try, pretty sure all NZers hate mauls these days (unless we score off one ;)) and I personally think that mauling for any longer than 5-10 seconds should be a free kick to the other team. Rugby needs teams to start playing like the All Blacks and using scrums and lineouts and restart points to attack from rather than situations to try and milk a penalty and get a shot at goal. It's a hard fix really.

Have you watched the rest of the games? Against Wales, England could have tied it with a penalty goal. If they kicked that penalty goal and if other results remained the same then England would have made the quarter finals. Instead England went for a try to win the game and screwed it up. So we certainly aren't unique in that respect. T

To me positive rugby is all about using the backs. Scoring 7 by rumbling it up in the forwards is no more or less positive than kicking 3 with the boot.

Would England really have made it through even though they lost head to head with
    Wales?

  14. Notsure SM Green

If they kick the penalty goal, they get a draw and do not lose to Wales.

Explain with more sentences, what do you mean and do not lose to wales. They did lose their match to wales.

    wtf

The score between Wales and England was 28-25. If England had scores the penalty, it would have been 28-28. In this scenario, Wales would not have beaten England.

At the end of the Welsh game England were down by 3 and were awarded a penalty out wide to tie it. If they kick the goal the game would be 28 all with 1 minute to go. If England drew the game and other results remained the same, then they would have made the quarter finals. However, England turned down the kick at goal to go for a lineout drive. They got driven into touch and lost.

This is in regards to Julian saying that only Australia can beat the All Blacks because we play positive rugby. By his definition of 'positive', England also played positive rugby but it didn't help them at the cup.

My bad all the games are running together there have been so many of them.

Somehow I thought that kick for the corner was against aussie. Nevermind me, carry on.
