Athlai Team Name: Avengers Name rating: C+ Time has not been kind to the Avengers name value, now synonymous with the MCU my original intention of Avenging spirits/ghosts from folklore is gone. Needs a change but now its part of the teams legacy. Squad: Martin Guptill Murali Vijay Aaron Finch Younis Khan Angelo Mathews Mushfiqur Rahim (+) Shadab Khan Mitchell Starc Lockie Ferguson Rangana Herath Hamish Bennett Jimmy Neesham Andile Phelukwayo Cam Fletcher (+) Luke Feldman Tushar Imran Mitchell Santner (R18 unselected) Squad Depth: A I suspect only 1 or 2 other teams will have the squad depth my team does. While I may not have the best batting or bowling lineup, my reserves are all fairly strong with multiple people being able to fill multiple roles. Misses out on a perfect score because my #3 position is a hole that can't be entirely fixed in the first XI. Best Pick: Shadab - Round 9 Morgie on Shadab:"A decent pick for Athlai's squad. I think there would be others in which he'd come as a bit of a no-rounder, but having Rahim here means you can take a punt on a guy who is clearly talented." Cribb's Best Pick: Younis - Round 10 Morgie on Younis: "Has been nearly three years since he retired. Makes it a bit difficult to judge, but was an ATG while playing. Should still have value here, but is risky." Worst Pick: Murali Vijay - Round 4 Morgie on Vijay: His last twelve months or so have been pretty alarming. Has lost a lot of form. Should still be OK for CPL4 admittedly but I think there were a couple of better options left over. Shadab was an absolute steal and should've been taken about two rounds before I got him. Vijay unfortunately is the opposite problem and really should've gone a round or two later, which was even more damaging since it was earlier in the draft. Cribb rated Younis as best pick which I can only assume means the draft was late in going after the gun retirees in this iteration of CPL. I'd expect many more of his ilk to be in this position.
I'll post when teams have made their R17 pick, a r18 pick can't be the best or worst pick, and it won't affect depth incredibly IMO.
Actually no, I'll just spoil the whole thread now and be done with it A: Athlai [...] F: Literally everyone else
Squad Depth as a metric isn't the be all and end all. While my depth is top tier. My top order is probably bottom 8 of the draft, my pace and spin attacks are good, but probably not top 5, and my middle order is good but probably not top 10. Beyond Fletcher and Santa, all of my squad could probably start for another team though, hence the depth rating. Marcuss and Hunter have crazy depth too, while Morgie has a team that has a first XI probably better than mine but he bungled some depth selections. Theres also blokes like Phlegm who don't really pick for depth but look to add on favourites and to try h4x their way into the first XI which can have mixed results.
I guess it just feels kind of weird for you rate squad depth but not rate the actual teams overall. Give a grade for both IMO.
Na someone else can do a best batting line ups thread, and then someone else a best bowling line ups thread. Need to bleed out as much content over as many threads as possible for as long as possible IMO. the cpl addiction is strong
CPL cares not for actual skill. Only h4x. A bloke that averaged what he did in Australian domestic cricket is gonna be overrated by the sim.
Ehh true, fair point. Even before he retired I wouldn't have had him in the top 20 quicks in the country but somehow he memed his way to especially good stats over his last couple of seasons
I pretty much ended up picking Copes to bowl unchanged from one end all day when the rest of my attack inevitably break down.
137 FC wickets @ 21 in Queensland 95 FC wickets @ 32 everywhere else, which includes 27@20 in similarly green Hobart 68 FC wickets @ 37 in non-Tas/Qld venues I feel like this goes a long way to explaining Feldman as a player.
I'm unconvinced by your depth tbh. One spare quick, one spare bat who can only bat 4, no third keeping option and three no-rounders all competing with one of your key strengths - Shadab. Two poorly timed injuries and you're running a NSW XI structure with Aaron Finch at 3.
My old symbol was a kaidan spirit from the movie Kaidan (like the monster girls from The Ring/The Grudge). Found it, tho photo bucket owned lol.
The fact that Athlai actually does quite like Marvel movies probably contributed to the confusion haha
I love Star Wars but I wouldn't call myself the fucking Jedi either FFS. Stupid MCU franchise destroying my CPL name meaning.
