Napa was great again. In a badly beaten pack over the first two games, he's been a shining light.

I can understand if Walters keeps Glasby in the side. I wouldn't personally but I can comprehend it. The early defensive errors were alarming but they can be and somewhat were remedied as the match went on. I think it was out-of-character for him. I don't think he'll be dropped given the win but yeah he needs to fix that shit up pronto if he's the play for us again.

Papalii was a little disappointing. Didn't have his usual punch and looked fucked after 5 minutes. Wallace playing 20 minutes is ridiculous. I don't know if he got injured or just ran out of puff but it's nowhere near enough time for someone considered a workhorse.

McGuire and Napa were extremely solid. Cooper didn't offer too much in attack but he defended brilliantly.

2 minutes in and there's a blatant strip by Woods on Holmes which is let go. And then the second pass off the ensuing scrum Pearce clearly throws it forward to Dugan. You can't just complain about the calls that lead to tries or swings of momentum. And you can't just complain about the opposition. Phil Gould made a point of picking out every QLD forward pass (which is fair enough) but there has to be objectivity. This could've setup the rest of the match if NSW scored in the first 3 minutes instead of Peats going down the blind and foolishly throwing it to Frizell on last tackle. Nobody mentions this. All the talk from down south is what happened a few minutes later saying Holmes was out. Or Thurston's forward pass was blatant.

NSW not offside once in 80 minutes apparently. Yet we get pinged twice for it in the first 30 minutes. Seems legit.

i thought the 10m looked massive sometimes last night. those 'offside' players are closer to 10m than the ref is

Agreed but that's not really relevant. Ref marks the 10, not the players so it's incorrect to put offside in inverted commas. They're a mile offside and were for a lot of the game.

Seriously, the Jackson MOTM call is one of the worst I've seen. Forget about him not being on the winning side, he wasn't even close to the best NSW player either.

I assumed refs had started going back 12ish metres just so that the 10 was enforced when players don't get all the way back/creep forward too early. Most of the games this season I've seen refs standing at least 12ish metres back and letting the players stand in front of them.

That's fine and it's been happening for well over a decade. My problem is, you can't just pull out random penalties for one side if they're both doing it.

Hating on Jarryd Hayne seems to be the cool thing to do.

He didn't bomb a try. Brett Morris would have be bundled into touch if Hayne passed it. Only criticisms of him from last night were the blatant strip when Qld were coming out from their end. Also the flick pass he threw over the sideline, but you could argue he was rushed.

How DT give Pearce a rating of 7 (the same as Slater) is beyond me. The guy is piss.

I had money on him and even I thought he was absolutely no chance. I also had money on McGuire and I was holding out for that (best stats for any forward + set up a try) but I'd completely given up on my Jackson bet. I wouldn't have even been expecting it if NSW won.

What does everyone make of the Holmes try?

IMO all that proves is that it was wrong to not reward Hayne the try back in 09 rather than Holmes being not a try.

That try should've been BOTD which was part of the system back then.

I thought Pearce was mediocre. Good support play for the try and some nice long range kicks. But he really offered nothing with the ball in hand or taking the line on. He slipped over twice in the first 20 minutes pretty much wasting tackles in good field position. Ran across field a few times, and threw some poor passes too.

He certainly didn't steer his side around in the final 25 when they needed it.

That said I didn't think Thurston overall was much if any better. Just a clutch kick that got him high kudos and a few nice passes. His injury makes it something of a pointless comparison though.

They definitely missed having Frizell targeting Thurston in the 2nd half.

Heard him say this morning his shoulder pulled up better than he thought. Good signs.

Its why it sucks that Matt Scott is out. Those 2 would give our pack much better metres.

I'd like to see Gillett moved to lock, McGuire into the front row, Papalii back into the back row. Gillett doesn't particularly run good lines anymore, but can hit hard when the opposition is running straight at him.

Pretty much.......certainly didn't stink it up so bad that he should be axed.

The gay guy has been an origin revelation since breaking onto the scene. I still keep waiting for him to fuck up with a bad defensive read or a dropped ball, but the cunt has been as safe as houses and his game has gone up a level (or two) when he's wearing the maroon jersey.
