A one on one with Ryan Gee

Some call him a Viper legend and others say he is the reason the Vipers are still a club in CricSim's most prestigious competition, the Bannerman Shield. Not only have the Vipers been able to sustain a good enough side to compete in the Bannerman Shield under him, the depth was so sufficient they were able to be successful in the Avo-Lovers Cup only last season when the Bannerman Shield side won the final. His name is Ryan Gee.

Having done it all, Gee is an experienced campaigner. I sat down with him at his home this week to discuss with him all things Vipers.

Vipers Media: As President of the Vipers, how do you think the season has gone so far?

Gee: As well as I could have hoped. We're leading the ladder in both the Bannerman Shield and the ALC. We have a huge game coming up against the Ravens on their home pitch in what is quite possibly the Grand Final preview. It'll be a good test for us and it should be a great game.

Vipers Media: Have there been any standouts for you so far?

Gee: The great thing about this season is that everyone has been chipping in. DA Eggman is gunning it as always, JRE Luffman is doing his thing with the bat, BOY Blunder is having his best season to date, JE McGrath has been solid opening and then myself and T Delonge have been scoring quite a few runs (go figure)

Vipers Media: Do you feel there are a few weak links in this season’s side at the moment?

Gee: There's a few players who seem to be having a bit of a rough patch but I wouldn't necessarily refer to them as 'weak links'. Our usually reliable allrounder pairing of CJ Devonshire and BA Storer haven't been in the finest of form and J Torres is performing well below par but I expect that they will improve in the coming games.

Vipers Media: Serial offender GR Smith has once again got into trouble with Cricsim CEO Rob Cribb, is he on his last legs?

Gee: Most definitely not. Fiery [Smith] has been a fine member in the Vipers sub-forum. He may get into some mischief every now and then but he's hardly the only person on the forum to do so.

Vipers Media: Who do you feel has been the biggest surprise for you so far this season?

Gee: I was not expecting J Torres to get off to such a poor start to the season, nor was I expecting BOY Blunder to get off to such a great start. Those 2 have surprised me quite a bit. Have to give a shout out to the ALC guys though, S Das and SJ Nova have been tearing it up.

Vipers Media: Rumours at the moment suggest Welker and Weaver will be joining the Vipers at season’s end? Care to confirm or deny this?

Gee: I don't really get involved in the recruitment side of things much anymore. I just sit back and make sure things run smoothly. You'd have to ask T Delonge or J Torres.

In order to give our readers the most information possible, I later contacted James Torres, the Vipers Chairman of Selectors for this question and the following question. The way in which Gee has handed full responsibilities to other people and doesn’t take credit for the work shows us just what type of man he really is.

Torres: Transfer discussion comes and goes every season, of course being the reigning premiers a lot of speculation will come about for us, and top players will be linked. Personalities like Wes (WC Welker) and Gareth (GJ Weaver) being constantly linked shows the quality of the club, as a club we'd love to have these players on board. Not only to strengthen the on field side but to add another dimension to our already high player morale. So far not dropping a point this season shows how good of a side we already have assembled, however as a unit we still see we can vastly improve in some areas, we will be looking to strengthen the squad and look for depth over the offseason.

Vipers Media: Where does this leave the rest of the squad particularly the three all-rounders you already have in the First Class side? Will you be looking at offloading them to another club, giving them a chance to search for a new club or simply demoting them back to ALC?

Gee: Again, you'd have to ask T Delonge or J Torres about recruitment issues/team selection. I will say this, though. Vipers policy is NOT to displace good, loyal members of the team who wish to stay.

Torres: The Vipers are a proud club as Ryan has mentioned, we won't sign players for no reason, however as every other side we have to balance that with looking to improve the side where we can. Having depth as a CricSim club is very important, having second XI players turning up to training in numbers is what we strive for. As players come some will leave, It's the natural cycle, however we won't be pushing players to leave and hope to retain all our players and hope they can continue to wear our shirt with pride.

After leaving the interview and returning to my office at Vipers HQ, I received a call from Ryan Gee. As the Media Manager of this club, I have the task of passing on further news to the outside Cricsim world.

At the conclusion of Season 10, Ryan Gee will be stepping down as President of the Vipers as he looks to let the club he started many seasons ago flourish into even bigger and better things. He plans to stay at the Vipers on purely a player basis. This ultimately means that Tom Delonge will take over the Presidency of the Vipers in Season 11.

“It is not that I don’t have time, it is really not a big deal” Gee said.

“Tim becoming president really rewards him for his hard work and dedication to the Vipers. He was a big part of getting the Vipers up and running once again and I doubt we would have been let in without him, especially with my poor selection skills” Gee joked.

“If not for the rough days of Season 4 and Season 5, I really do not believe we would be in the situation we are in now. I, along with a few others learned a lot from that experience and I believe it helped immensely with how the club is run currently” concluded Gee before hanging up.

Ryan is a very modest, hard working individual and his efforts at the Vipers should be praised by the whole CricSim community. On behalf of the Vipers, we would like to thank Gee for his services and hope that becoming just a player at the club will improve his batting averages!

    Reading this hurts my brain.

Although good work for actually doing an article, I suppose...

Talking about potential signings this early is a pretty dangerous prospect IMO.

To be fair, that was a fairly reasonable article. Decent.

It's hardly been a secret that those 2 are potential signings. They've practically been sucking us dry in our match threads

Yeah. It's pretty fucking ordinary on their behalfs though.

Really? Thought it was pretty decent myself.

Don't rate the article because it mentions nothing of being a Prophet or the new Prophet Gee Fan Club.

AVA was pretty much the de facto president anyway, it's not like Gayler stepping down means the sky is falling down.

    Anyway, good article.

You should swing by and win a premiership with us sometime in the future ;)

  18. Hughesy JM Hughes

Wasn't official until today though even if AVA was doing most of it.

    Fun Fact of the Day:

Every club apart from the Ravens has now changed their president during [the course of, or the run-up to] Season 10.

This is essentially the reason for me stepping down at seasons end. Me stepping down wasn't the reason Hughesy did this article. I actually only contacted AVA and made a thread in the Vipers subbie today and Hughesy was already doing his article. Hughesy just decided to tack on this second part of the article to let everyone know that AVA would 'officially' be getting the spot.
